The Children's Bereavement Centre in Newark (3 Kings Road) offers free, specialist support to children aged 3–18 and their families who are affected by the death or terminal illness of a loved one.

Rooted in compassion since 2002, the Centre provides a warm, welcoming environment supported by dedicated staff, volunteers, and carers .

Core Services

  • One‑to‑one & group sessions: Play therapy, peer groups, and social events designed to help children express grief, build resilience, and regain confidence.

  • Pre‑bereavement support: Families navigating terminal illness also receive tailored guidance and emotional coping strategies .

  • Phone help & workshops: Trained advisors offer telephone support, plus training in schools for parents, carers, and professionals to better understand and support grieving children.

Community Highlights

  • Candlelit Memorial Service: Each December, families gather at St Mary Magdalene Church to honour lost loved ones with readings, music, and handcrafted robin keepsakes.

  • Parent/Carer Training: Free sessions are offered to give adults the tools to support children's emotional wellbeing through grief and loss.

  • Local Partnership Impact: In April 2023, a joint fundraiser with Newark Emmaus Trust—marking 50 combined years—raised £15,000 to sustain counselling, peer groups, and workshops.
